No Sleep ’Til Brooklyn: SUMO Heavy Moves Across the River

· Company

When we started SUMO Heavy in Philadelphia out of a spare bedroom 5 years ago, we dreamed of eventually having an office space to call our own. We finally did get that office, on the 4th floor of a funky office building just off of South Street (once known as ‘The Hippest Street in Town’).

My partner, Bob got married and moved to New York, I followed soon after. We settled into one of the early WeWork spaces at Varick Street in WeWork Labs.

The reasons for working out of a shared coworking space are obvious. Lower cost, a collaborative community environment, and a New York address that would otherwise be out of our reach.

As the company grew, we stayed at WeWork and went from shared desks to private offices, snagging the better offices at they became available.

Our last address was the City Hall WeWork. It’s a great location — convenient for staff and visitors, and stellar views of the river, the World Trade Center buildings and the brand new World Trade Center Transportation Hub .

We weren’t exactly looking to move, but you have to strike when an opportunity presents itself.

WeWork has just opened their newest space at 81 Prospect Street in Dumbo. (Downtown Brooklyn, for non-New Yorkers). More space is always a good thing, plus we have access to the rooftop deck and a full barista, but without the big rent of the City Hall space.

We’re just getting settled, but the next time you’re in Brooklyn, pay us a visit. We’re at 81 Prospect Street, the first stop off the F,A,C trains.
